A Haiku and Some Nice Quotes About Dogs

Here's a haiku that I wrote all by myself.  It shows how sad I am about the end of Cicada Season, and sometimes when you are very sad, the best way to express that is in a poem.  Anyway, here is my haiku:

Cicadas are gone,
crunchy memories only,
time for a long nap.

I hope you liked my haiku.  Now I will share some good quotes about dogs, which I know are good ones because I am a dog, and I am in an excellent position to judge these things.

Quote #1:

The dog is man's best friend.
He has a tail on one end.
Up in front he has teeth.
And four legs underneath.
  - Ogden Nash - An Introduction to Dogs

Quote #2:

Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend:
and inside a dog, it's too dark to read.
  - Groucho Marx

 Quote #3:

The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.

  ~ Andy Rooney

Quote #4:

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

 ~ M. Acklam

  1. I really like your dog quotes, Piper. I wish mom would let us doing something like that. But, as we said before, she's just too lazy to do research. She call's it, having to go to work!

    Your friends

  2. I am sorry your mom has to go to work. My mom is gone a lot, too, even though she is supposedly retired. Sometimes she comes home smelling like dogs at the Humane Society. I wish she would stay home all the time with us. Well, except maybe if she needs to go buy dog food!

  3. Dear Piper,

I can't believe you didn't post the best poem ever written. It was penned by Roy Blount Jr who we sometimes listen to on NPR on the weekends.

BASENJI: "A small dog having a short
Smooth coat, and not uttering the barking sound
    characteristic of most dogs"
So what does it do? Snort?
Utter the croaking sound characteristic of most frogs?
    Make an occasional snappy remark?
    Can it bark,
    And just demurs?
You aren't going to tell me it purrs.

From Webster's Ark by Roy T. Blount, Jr.

Although your poem was nice too.

This weekend mom said I was a very good girl and I now have a CH in front of my name. But I'm still in training.

    Your friend,
    Zest, superstar in training

  4. You're right, Zest. Mr. Blount wrote a very nice poem, and I had never read it before. Mom hadn't read it either, so thank you for sharing it with us.

You are very clever and smart to have earned a CH to put in front of your name. I am proud to say you are my friend!

I watched the video of you doing agility at the National, and I understand why your mom would make you still be in training, but I thought maybe you could have a good career already as a comedienne.

    Your friend, Piper
